Season 6 Recap

After last summer’s Season 5 went very smoothly (with very few rainouts allowing us to play 12 games in 3 months), you knew it couldn’t last into the wet Houston autumn. But, Gilruth Pete decided to try to fit a short 8-game season in before the holidays. We chugged along slowly with many weather interruptions, but with finally finished the season in January!

The George Jetsons started Season 6 on fire as they crushed the first two teams they faced. A 19-3 victory over Carnage Asada and a 16-3 victory over Team Hotel Bravo had the George Jetsons flying high, but the Baby Brains would present a reality check by beating us 19-4. GJ won the next two games to improve their record to 4-1, and then lost an extra-innings nailbiter against Space Cowboys, 18-17. A split in the last week brought us to our final record of 5-3.

[b]ROOKIE OF THE YEAR AWARD[/b]

When we welcome new GJ players to the team, the Rookie of the Year Award is presented to the top new player. Usually, only one Rookie of the Year is selected per season. But we had a different situation this time with Jason Abbey and Kevin Rosenquist both filling is as subs during Season 5 and becoming permanent players in Season 6. Since their services have covered two seasons, I felt justified in awarding both of them a Rookie of the Year Award after Season 6. Both awards read as follows:

[b]MOST VALUABLE JETSON AWARD[/b]

The MVJ Award for Season 6 was no contest as Randy Lillard dominated with some incredible offensive numbers. At our Sherlock’s get-together, Lillard was presented the MVJ Award, which reads:

The Baby Brains went undefeated in this short, 8-game season. We were the next best team at 5-3. In the standings below, I’ve awarded us sole possesion of second place because we defeated the 5-3 Rally Monkeys in head-to-head play.

[b]STATISTICS[/b]

The George Jetsons offense exploded this season, posting its best numbers ever, and believe it or not it wasn’t all because of Randy! Even discounting Lillard’s 18-for-21 performance, the team still hit .596, better than any other season. The improved offense helped us to our second-ever winning season!

Randy led the way, to be sure, but we had many great offensive performances this season, including three .700+ hitters. Below are the team leaders in the primary offensive categories. Note that 17 at-bats are required to qualify for the percentage categories. Unfortunately, this excludes Jason Abbey, who was tearing it up almost as much as Randy, although he only played 4 games.
